So, I visited my favorite thrift store in town yesterday and scored big! I got a bunch of cookie cutters for my classroom, some great alphas, some circles and hearts that I will use at home too for crafty fun. And then, God was smiling down on me, I guess, because I found bear shaped cookie cutters. This doesn’t sound like a huge miracle, but it kinda was…..let me explain. Next week is Friends and Family theme at school. One of the days we are going to read the story of “The Three Bears”. A great activity to reinforce the story and tie in manipulatives and math – using different sized bear cookie cutters with playdough. Now, I loved the idea so much {and honestly just needed to fill in that math square on my lesson plan} that I put it on there without thinking about the fact that I didn’t have a single bear cookie cutter, much less a family of them! Lo and behold, at my favorite thrift store, just waiting on me to scoop them up, a bear family of cookie cutters! I pretty much did a happy dance right there in the store!
Anyway…. I also got a few things to upcycle and turn into something fabulous. There was a great old spice rack/paper towel holder. I think it will be totally rockin on the wall in my Happy Place after a few coats of paint get slapped on and then add a dowel to hold my favorite and most used ribbons and twine.
Next fun find was an old silver tray. I am pretty sure it’s not pure silver, but it is kinda of heavy, not the cheap-o ones you find at the $1 Store. I am planning on painting it with chalkboard paint and hanging it somewhere with some pretty ribbon.
Now, the last things is just a cool doohickey, whatchamacallit, a thingamajig, a doololly, a thingamabob……well as you can see I don’t know what it is! I thought it was a cigar box at first, but the label on it says Napa Valley Box Company, so then I thought it must have something to do with wine. Yes, I have master skills of deduction! Anyway, I don’t know what it is, and I don’t have any idea what I want to do with it, I just like it!
