Farewell Summer Teacher Gifts

Farewell Summer!  Oh how sweet it was to have two extra weeks to enjoy the lazy days of summer, (Thank you State of Alabama!)  Those extra 14 days we would normally be in school zipped by quicker than a lightning bug when you are trying […]

First Day of School

3rd Grade for Caeden and Lael.  HIGH SCHOOL for Chace.  How is that possible?!?!?  I thought it was weird when he became a teenager, then when he got his learners permit, whew, a major shock to my system.  But high school?  I know it’s such a cliche, but honestly it seems like he was the one who was 7 or 8 and we were just getting used to life with twins, living in New York.  Time flies.

Caeden is in a class with Dylan and Nathan again!  I don’t know how that happened!  Aimee, Lisa and I decided to make some goody baskets for Ms. Foster.  So, I decided to make one for Lael’s teacher as well.  Actually, it is a sub that is in for Mrs. Cole until she heals from her back surgery.  Ms. Thomason should be there about a month or so.  I probably should have done something for Chace’s teachers as well – but which teachers?  He has too many!

Last Day of School

Yay, today was the last day of school.  Can you hear how excited I am?  whoo-hoo!  I do love summer.  I love having the kids here, to listen to them play, to play with them, to go do fun things…..etc…etc.. What I do not love […]

Sci-Quest Field Trip

The 2nd grade went on a field trip to Sci-Quest today.  Mrs. Porter was not able to go, because she had already planned on going with her daughter to the Space Center for her field trip.  She asked if I could go, since I knew […]

At the Bus Stop

Our bus stop is a happening place!  We have 10 kids that regularly get on the bus there.  That is a lot of kids to try to keep out of the street as the cars come zooming down the street in their hurry to get to work.  The bus stop has moved a few times.  We used to wait in Aimee’s yard/driveway and the bus would stop in the middle of the road as it curves around.  Then we got a new bus driver this year and she decided that the kids needed to wait on the other side of the road right where the road curves.  She said that it was because they would not have to cross the street to get on the bus.  But, we think that she just wanted them there so that they could get on the bus more quickly, so that she could finish her route more quickly.  The problem with her scenario is that the cars who are driving way too fast down our street almost always cut over into the other lane closest to where she wanted them to wait on the curb.  It would be beyond horrible if one of the kids came off the curb for whatever reason and a car hits them.

Round 1 – So, we told our kids to wait on our side of the street, and we would scoot up, closer to where she stops.  That wasn’t good enough – our bus driver went to the principal and we got a letter sent home telling us to have our kids to wait where she wanted them to.

Round 2  – We called the principal, sent emails, took it to the transportation director guy for Madison.  They both came out to our bus stop to see exactly what we were talking about.  The end result – they ruled in our favor, our kids will stay safe and wait on our side of the street.  To address the bus drivers ‘concerns’ they flipped the route – so now, our kids are the last to be picked up so that they can be picked up on the safe side of the street and not have to cross traffic.

Here are some of the kids from our bus stop.

Whimsical Word Day

This week is Dr. Suess Week at Columbia.  They are doing fun stuff all week long.  Today was Whimsical Word Day.  The students were supposed to choose a word and then dress up as that word.  Lael chose the word comfortable.  She wore pajamas, houseshoes […]

PTA Board Member

It’s official, I’ve lost my mind! no seriously, I’ve just been elected to the PTA Board at Columbia. Most people would think that is crazy, but I think it will be fun. I love to be involved at the school, and in this way I […]

Teacher Appreciation

This week is Teacher Apprecation at Columbia. All week long the teachers are getting pampered by breakfast, lunches and gifts. Both of the twins teachers are wonderful, we could not be more pleased! So, of course I wanted to do something special for them. But, I wanted to do something a little different. I couldn’t think of anything original or creative until I remembered the Colorful Cupcake Party we did for the twins at their preschool, 5th Bday. I bought tons of colored candies and sprinkles and stuff, and separated them all by color, each child got to decorate their cupcake however they wanted. Anyway, for a teacher appreciation gift I decided to buy M&M’s and separate by color. Lael helped out with this, but Caeden could not be bothered. Then we layered them in a container and wrote a little note, titled “You’re Like a Rainbow, Every Color Works Together to Make something Beautiful.” I jotted down some thoughts about how each color signified a wonderful way that they are a wonderful teacher.

The school board met yesterday and we have now been bumped back to Columbia. I can’t believe it! I am very, very surprised, but of course I am glad. I love Columbia, it’s a great school and I have put a lot into it even […]

Due to the massive growth in Madison, they have built a new school.  When they build new schools, they have to re-zone.  Here in Madison, they have to do it often.  Back when they first started talking about it, I never thought we would be […]
