Snow Day!

Snow Day!

Our weather is crazy!  It has been cold here, but we haven’t had any hint of possible snow – until the weatherman starting saying “Oh yes, we might have a few snow flurries, but nothing to worry about, it will probably arrive later in the afternoon….blah..blah…”  Well, I know I certainly couldn’t do a better job predicting the weather than someone trained to do so – but they missed the mark.  We got snow!  Quite a bit, at least for Alabama!!  Of course we consider quite a bit to be enough to cup a single measly snowball!  And don’t get me started on how the roads and the drivers get when we get a dusting!  I grew up here in Alabama and can count on one had the number of times we got enough snow to build a snowman while I was growing up, so I understand how people tend to panic.  But, I have also lived in upstate NY where we had several FEET of snow from about November though sometimes April!  So, I can see both sides.

Anyway, today it was just a dusting…….until around 11:00 or so when it started to come down in buckets.  Madison city made the decision to close schools early starting with the high schools and middle schools like they always do.  Ok, no problems yet.  But, by the time 12:00 came around when I was leaving work after all my darlings had been picked up, the roads were a complete disaster.  I live about 3 minutes from where I work, and I slipped and slid all the way home!  By the time I got to my neighborhood I decided that the last half hour before the elementary schools were supposed to get out would create some serious problems on the road and I didn’t want the twins on a school bus out in that.  So, I headed to Columbia to pick them up.  It was an absolute madhouse!  I finally got them and a neighbor’s child home and they immediately headed out into the winter wonderland.

Say what?
