Hello Summer Party

Hello Summer Party

I had been thinking about having a Hello Summer Party for a while.  My original plan was simple.  I wanted to paint a huge sign and stretch it between the mailboxes on our street that said something about School’s Out – Summer’s Here.  Then the kids would run through it when they got off the bus.  We would then go to our house to have our colorful ice cream party.  After that, we could go hang at the pool.  However, I goofed around and didn’t reserve the clubhouse for a party.  This was all about a week before the scheduled party.

So, I went to Plan B.  Plan B consisted of some fuzzy ideas about games and setting up the water slide.  About 2 days before the party, I started to panic!  Ummm, I had about 20 kids invited, what in the world was I going to do with them?!?!?  I turned to the trusty internet and googled Party Games.  There is of course a wealth of info and ideas on the net – I had more than enough ideas now, I just had to gather the needed materials.  I figured that I would set up stations and have the kids rotate through as they got tired of one station they could go to another.  In theory, that works, in practice – not so much!  These  are the stations I set up.  1)  the Waterslide  2)  Painting on the Fence  3)  Balloons & Water Bombs  4)  Hula Hoops, Sidewalk Chalk & Bubbles.  I bet you can guess which station everyone wanted to stay.  Of course, the WATERSLIDE!  So, we had to split them up into groups and rotate them on a 15 minute schedule.  I think that the paint station was a big hit, they all seemed to like it, the waterslide of course, and some of them enjoyed the hula hoops and balloons and stuff………  I will definitely do it again – but will schedule it for a day when Todd is around to help.  Thank goodness Aimee stayed – it was pretty crazy trying to keep new paper on the fence, enough balloons blown up and the stupid waterslide from tipping over.  Seems like the water bags that attach to the sides of the waterslide are important after all.  The party got cut short by a pretty nasty thunderstorm that blew in, but I think everyone had fun anyway.

Say what?
