Todd was in Chattanooga for business this week, so we decided that we would drive up on Friday to spend a couple of days there. It is always a treat to go to Chattanooga, it’s such a cool city! One of the fun things we did this time was to ride the Incline Railway. This is a railway car that goes up to the top of Lookout Mountain. It is known as ‘America’s Most Amazing Mile’. When you first get in the railway car, it doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal, but then you start going up the side of the mountain and before you know it, you are looking down a very steep track at the ground a long way away! The railway car has huge glass windows and even a glass ceiling to offer panoramic views.
Once you reach the top of the incline, there is a mulit-level building with observation towers and of course that all-important gift shop!! One of the neatest things though was the huge glass windows down on the lower level where you can see the machinery that powers the railway cars. Todd loved this part especially. He explained how it all worked, but my eyes glazed over – way too technical for me!!
A couple of blocks from the observation tower building is a small park, part of the Chickamauga -Chattanooga National Military Park system. This was an awesome place to have even more beautiful, panoramic views of Chattanooga.
