The tournament was double elimination, so we had one more chance to continue playing. This time we were up against the Mariners. Caeden has lots of friends on that team, so we were looking forward to it. Our boys played well, but definitely not great. There was plenty more of what they had done all season long. They would have a great inning and then start making mistakes. The Mariners just kept plugging along and beat us. Game over, season over.
Caeden’s coach asked Caeden at the last game if he could bunt. Caeden said, “Yeah, I think so” Coach said, “You THINK so???” Caeden said, “Yes, I can do it” He then went and laid down the most beautiful bunt you’ve ever seen. The catcher, pitcher and first baseman all went for it, I’m not sure who ended up with it, but I just know that nobody was covering first. Caeden could have walked there and been safe.
His coach gave him the sign to bunt again at this game. He did it again perfectly. He then stole 2nd, slid in safe there. Sliding into 2nd wasn’t necessary, he just likes to get dirty! He jumped up, and took off for 3rd……it was going to be close, a slide was definitely needed there! There was some debate on whether or not he was safe. The ump finally decided he was. When I asked him later in the dugout, he said he thought he was out, and Chace was pretty sure he was out too. Oh well, what the ump says goes!
