Box of Sunshine

Box of Sunshine

Have you seen the Box of Sunshine on Pinterest that is being pinned and re-pinned and re-pinned 22 dozen more times??  I loved the idea as soon as I saw it and knew that I wanted to brighten someone’s day with a happy surprise.  Actually, I decided to do it twice!  My MIL’s friend gave us a BUNCH of Tassimo coffee and needed a little cheering up as well – a Box of Sunshine is just what the doctor ordered!  Also, my mother’s birthday was this past weekend, so a Box of Sunshine seemed like a happy present for her.

I set off to Tuesday Morning, Target and the $1 Store for cute little yellow items.  Let me tell you, it is a LOT easier to find yellow things

than you might think!  At each store, my shopping cart was full of happiness before I even realized it.  I had to pick and choose and put a lot of stuff back!  Here are the things that I finally decided to include between the two baskets:

  • All kinds of candy from the $1 Store
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Citronella candles
  • Wet wipes
  • Dish towel
  • Carmex
  • Goo Gone
  • Smell good candle
  • Smell good spray
  • Gardening gloves
  • Cute napkins
  • Body Wash
  • Body Lotion
  • Lemonade
  • Magnetic notepad
  • Cute pen
  • Cute post it notes
  • Candy in cellophane in yellow pails
  • Juicy Fruit
  • Yellow stripey socks
  • Dog book
  • Yellow flowered acrylic tray

I also decided to make the boxes cute since I was going to mail the packages.  That way everyone who saw and touched the Box of Sunshine as it made it’s way through the US postal system got a chance to smile and have their day brightened!  I used my trusty Sharpie and just channeled my inner 13 year old to make block letters spelling out Box of Sunshine.

I included a cute card in the box with a wonderful uplifting quote.  Everybody knows I love to use quotes on cards, my scrapbooking pages or just anywhere I can squeeze one in!  The card was made using a printable from The Digi Chick.  It is from the Sun and Fun Printables from Dawn by Design.
