Cocoa Beach

For our vacation, we decided not to do the typical 5 or 7 day tour of the Disney parks.  We wanted to see a bit more of the area rather than just the parks.  So, we decided to drive over to Cocoa Beach for one of our days.  It was about 1/2 hour from our hotel.  When we got to the beach, there was hardly anyone there.  A few more people arrived as the day wore on, but it was never crowded.  Cocoa Beach is different from the Florida panhandle beaches that Todd and I are used to from our childhood.  When we were both younger our families always went to a beach on the other side of the Florida, Destin, PC Beach, or even Gulf Shores or Orange Beach in AL.  Anyway, the sand is different on the Atlantic side of Florida.  This was not really surprising, since we lived in Miami for a while.  But, what was surprising was the temperature of the water.  It was freezing!!  I know it’s October, but still, it was freezing!!!  The twins didn’t care – they jumped right in, and begged and pleaded for us to come in and help them jump waves.  Todd was too big of a scaredy cat, cold water is not for him.  It is definitely not my favorite thing either – but hey, we were at the beach, so I was going to make the best of it!  Plus, the undertow was quite strong, and I felt better when I was holding the twins hands, tightly!

We took a break from the sand and sea for lunch at Coconuts on the Beach. It is a cute little restaurant that is aptly named because it was right on the beach.  We were able to leave our towels and stuff on the beach and walk up a bit to the restaurant.  It was your typical beachy restaurant, a little bit of sand on the floor, palm tree decor, and aquariums with tropical fish.  The food was also typical, nothing to write home about.

After lunch, we went back to the beach for a little longer.  We built some sand castles, jumped some more waves and just enjoyed the time together.  On the way home, we had to stop at one of the souvenir stores.  I collect postcards and magnets from all the places we go as a family.  Of course, the twins think they need a souvenir from every place we go as well.  What vacation is complete without a tiny ship with sand in a glass bottle????

Vacation Time!

We had previously planned this vacation for Spring Break last year, but something came up at work for Todd and he wasn’t going to be able take off.  So, we changed it to Fall Break.  I figured that was a better time to go to […]
