Christmas at Mimi’s is always a fun time. There is always an abundance of toys, clothes, other great gifts and plenty of wrapping paper bits. It is mostly a free for all. The kids normally sort out the gifts into piles for each person, but after that – it’s game on! We don’t take turns or wait on anyone to finish carefully open their present without ripping the wrapping paper – we just open until there are no more to open. Poppy gets one of the humongous lawn & leaf bags and we start stuffing the trash inside. A little while later is when somebody realizes that some tiny integral part of one of their presents is MISSING! Uh-Oh……I swear it happens every year. You’d think we’d learn.
Another fun thing Mimi and Poppy have been doing for a few years now is the Money Jar. All year long, they put change into a huge jar. Then at Christmas when we are all there, the grandkids get a couple of days to analyze the jar and write down their best guess as to how much money they think is in the jar. Whoever gets closest wins the whole thing. The strange thing is the winners each year have been going straight down the age line. Chace, the first year, then Madeline, last year was Mallory, and this year was Lael’s turn. She was so excited!! She has actually had really close guess each year – but this time the money goes home with her!
